Best Practices for developing accessible web sites in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007

, , , , ,

For the last couple of months I've been working with accessibility Web Content Management (WCM) in MOSS 2007. During that time I have gathered some do's and don'ts for working with accessible WCM solutions.

During the last months I have published some of these tips & tricks on my blog. Still I've been thinking on publishing my findings bundled in one document. Recently it became possible thanks to Dennis Mulder (MSFT NL), Anthony Labriola (MSFT) and the crew behind TechNet. Best Practices for developing accessible web sites in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 have been published today on Microsoft TechNet together with another document Deliver accessible solutions by using Office SharePoint Server by Mark Harrison (MSFT) and Henny Swan (Royal National Institute of Blind People).

Having my Best Practices published doesn't mean the end of the road for me. As I'm going to continue working with accessible solutions in MOSS 2007, I'm planning to update the document to provide you the best practices for developing accessible WCM solutions in MOSS 2007.

Also if you have any suggestions or feedback, please don't hesitate to contact me. I would like to hear from you what you think of the document and does it provide you with the answers you're looking for.

Hi there, both links seem to point to the "Delivering…" document. I've downloaded from both pages on Technet and I get the same document for both.

Hi Waldek, thanks for the tips. We are planning to build some toolkit for MOSS, related to accesibility and web standards. If possible, please drop me a line, as we need a few tips and we might collaborate. Thanks!

    Hi Waldek,
That's the kind od stuff I am interested in at the moment. I am building a MOSS publishing site for my client and it has to be totally accessible (no tables etc.). So far I have developed my own mster page from scratch with DIVs only but not am strugling to give a web parts zone like feature without rendering tables. And AKS is a pain to work with. Wondering if you can point me to some good resource online or recommend a book or something.

    Cheers,
    Sandy

@SandyB: Unfortunately there aren't many resources on the Internet about developing accessible websites on MOSS 2007. There are a few articles on MSDN and a couple of other sites but that's about it. Don't hesitate to let me know should you have any specific questions.

    Thanks Waldek.
