In my case it was the UI and how easy I could get started. Thanks to your comment I gave it another chance and stumbled upon Scott Hanselman's article on T4 (http://www.hanselman.com/blog/T4TextTemplateTransformationToolkitCodeGenerationBestKeptVisualStudioSecret.aspx).
