How good is your Internet-facing website built on the SharePoint 2010 platform?
You can build great Internet-facing websites using the Microsoft SharePoint 2010 platform – no doubt about it. The challenging part is that the SharePoint platform is complex and that building for the Internet is different from building for intranets.
For the last few weeks we have been working here at Mavention on an automated tool that would help us check the quality of Internet-facing websites that we are building for our customers. The very first release of it is ready and a part of it is now available to you – for free.
Mavention SharePoint 2010 Site Checker
Mavention SharePoint 2010 Site Checker is a set of automated tests that allows you to scan an Internet-facing website built on the Microsoft SharePoint 2010 platform for the most common issues. The tool scans the website and executes a series of tests to check for the most known challenges. After the check you will get a report showing you the results of the scan.
Mavention SharePoint 2010 Site Checker automatically scans the whole website and retrieves all pages to be scanned, so that you can get a complete picture of your website with a single mouse click. Additionally it gives you the ability to execute only specific tests that you are interested in.
The free version available at mavention.nl allows you to scan up to 5 websites using all the available tests. In the scan it includes all site tests and page tests on the homepage only. While the full version that works on-premise allows you to scan your website before it’s published, the free version available on our website scans only websites that are publicly accessible.
This is the very first release of Mavention SharePoint 2010 Site Checker. For the next release we’re planning to improve whatever can be improved and to include some guidance on what the specific tests mean, why we have included them in the tool, how they can impact the success of your website and, what is the most important, how to fix them. Aside from that, we are hoping on some feedback from you, to hear what is and what isn’t working.
The very last thing before you start
Mavention SharePoint 2010 Site Checker is a set of automated tests developed to help you improve the quality of Internet-facing websites built on the SharePoint 2010 platform. Depending on the website that you are testing, it may report incorrect values. The main goal of the tool is not to provide you with a fool-proof overview of errors, but rather to help you discover potential issues. It is up to you to verify the correctness of the reported values and to determine their impact on the success of your Internet-facing website built on the SharePoint 2010 platform.
