WCM tip #35: When inserting a link from SharePoint in a Rich Text Editor the physical URL is used

When inserting a link from SharePoint in Rich Text Editor SharePoint uses the physical URL of the selected page in the hyperlink even if that page has a Friendly URL configured.

When working with Managed Navigation, SharePoint 2013 allows you to specify Friendly URLs for your webpages. With Friendly URLs you can decouple the navigation structure of your website from how it’s physically structured simplifying the navigation and maintenance for the different groups of users.

When editing rich text and inserting a link to another page in your website, Rich Text Editor will use the physical URL of the selected page in the hyperlink even if that page has a Friendly URL configured. If you’re not careful you will mix Friendly URLs with physical URLs providing your users with confusing experience.
