What's your key metric?

What’s your key metric? Can everyone see it? How easy can they get to it? Is it real-time or is it days, weeks, months old? Do you understand how your work influences it?

It’s a lot of questions, but unless you have a good answer to them, there is a chance you’re spending time on things that don’t move the needle for your organization.

There are many things important to your organization and even more that you find important personally. But your organization has only a few key metrics and often, these are the things that matter the most.

If you are an employee, find out what your metrics are, how your work influences them and how you can track your progress. If you are a manager, ensure that everyone can access the key metrics with a single click and they understand how they correlate with their work.

Keeping metrics up-to-date and translating them to your work requires effort. But if you want to make an impact, you need to understand what matters the most.
