#23 All You Need Is A Plan

When your workday is over, do you leave your work at work or do you carry with you back home? Do you keep thinking about the different things that happened, different problems you need to tackle, different ways you could do it, new ideas for your opportunities?

I do that, a lot. And it turns out, that this thinking is bad for you. Not only it takes your attention from your personal life but it’s also bad for your productivity. You see, some types of problems need to be solved unconsciously but if your brain is constantly engaged, you don’t give it a chance to take on these issues.

It seems though, that the solution is pretty easy. All you need is a plan. Even though the things on your plate are not finished, if you have a plan, your brain will be put at ease and will be free to rest and think about other things.

At the end of today, plan 30 minutes to make a plan for what you will do next with everything that’s on your plate. Don’t just say what you’re going to do but also how, when and where you’re going to do it. The more detailed the plan the better.

Tomorrow, let me know how it worked out for you. Were you more rested? Did you think less about your work? I’ll tell you how it worked for me.

PS: if you want to know more about it, there is a study on this topic.
